The pleasing contrast of warm and cool provided a lively interplay of color.
As the gondola drew closer, a contrast of textures also became apparent. The variety of surfaces increased the drama and added depth.
But the most important was the typical Italian attention to detail that only reveals itself when one draws closer. There is no detail too small or too ordinary to be beautiful.
The door encased an intricate geometric pattern of interconnecting squares and rectangles. In contrast, the grillwork over the window had a delicate pattern of soft intertwining curves.
As the gondola floated by in the golden light, each layer perfectly combined to make it a rich and compelling composition.
