Savoca is a gorgeous village on mountain top overlooking the sea. Red tile roofs, cobblestones streets and gardens abound in this idyllic hill town.
Un giardino a Savoca, Sicilia, the meaning of the name:
Un giardino a = A garden in
Savoca, Sicilia = Savoca, Sicily
Savoca is located in northeastern Sicily in the Monti Peloritani. It is well known as one of the most beautiful villages of Italy with stunning views overlooking the sea.
In my painting there are two gardens: one is up the stairway just in front of the door, the other is through the ornate gate. Both are adorned with terra-cotta pots brimming with plants and flowers
Frances Ford Coppola filmed scenes from “The Godfather” in this village. (Also known Il Padrino in Italian.) Just past the light post there is a glimpse of Piazza Fossia and a monument to the director. Bar Vitelli is also on this piazza.
On the bottom left, you can see the basalt cobblestones that pave the streets of Savoca.
