The excitement of the vendage permeates the air of this downy vineyard in Lourmarin. With a pigeonnier as a watchtower, it speaks of the many festivities it has witnessed over the years in this beautiful village in Provence.
My painting is a typical scene in Lourmarin which is in an idyllic setting surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and almond trees.
It is located in the Luberon region of Provence and is considered one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Peter Mayle, the famous author of “A Year in Provence”, lived in this village.
A few of the grapes cultivated for wine in the Luberon are Syrah, Cinsault, Granache, Mouvrèdre, Clairette Blanche, Vermentino,and Carignan.
What does the name mean?
My painting is called “Le vignoble et le pigeonnier, Lourmarin”.
Vignoble = vineyard
Pigeonnier = dovecote
Translation: The vineyard and the dovecote, Lourmarin
