Il Ponte Vecchio, the oldest bridge in Florence, gracefully crosses the Arno river. Lined with jewelry shops, goldsmiths, and silversmiths, it reflects artistry for which this Renaissance city is known.
In my painting the renowned Ponte Vecchio is straight ahead, arching over the water.
The colorful extensions from the side are jewelry shops, goldsmiths and silversmiths.
On the left side of the painting is the neighborhood of Florence known as the Oltrarno meaning “beyond the Arno”.
The Arno river that flows diagonally through the composition, reflecting the sky and buildings that surround it.
The Uffizi Gallery is connected to the Ponte Vecchio by the Vasari Corridor which you can see on the right side of the painting. The small windows on the second level of the bridge are part of this walkway.
The water is painted with real turquoise!
