Early spring permeates the fields of Tassignano, a placid village in Tuscany.
In my painting wide green fields typical of Tuscan farmland lead to the cozy village of Tassignano and its church.
La Chiesa di San Stefano Protomartire has an impressive dome which I painted with real turquoise. Its elegant campanile looks over the fields.
In the distance, the Carrara mountains form a blue violet backdrop to the red tile roofs and stone buildings. These mountains have been famous for their marble quarries since antiquity.
The buildings are a rural architectural style unique to the area around Lucca called Corte Lucchese.
On the left, a row of flowering white trees shows it is the beginning of spring.
On the right, a row of cypress trees lines the freshly ploughed field leading back to a stone wall with two turquoise gates.
