Driving along the coast of Northwestern Sicily on the way to Palermo, you will see rolling hills blanketed with abundant farmland. Especially olive trees and citrus trees which are some of my favorite things about the Mediterranean.
When I saw this bridge set against the verdant hills, I thought it would make a great painting! I loved the grey violet of the stone and the repetition of the arches running through the greenery. Also there is a strong diagonal from the dark green plants that balances the shape of the bridge. Both lead the eye back beyond the bridge into the distance that is illuminated by sunlight.
This scene is near the town of Castellammare del Golfo in Trapani. It is situated on a peninsula that is commonly described as the most beautiful peninsula in Sicily. Maybe that is why it is a popular filming location for movies such as Ocean’s Twelve and television series such as Inspector Montalbano.
