Part of the enjoyment of traveling to Positano is the journey to this lovely seaside village. Winding roads meander through the mountains, offering truly spectacular views of the Amalfi Coast (and the occasional terrifying drop-off). By the time you arrive, you're fully immersed in its beauty.
One of my favorite stops is just before you reach Positano. It’s a scenic overlook with a tiny granita stand and just enough space to park. There, I savor a fresh lemon granita, a local delight. And the view! It's captured in my painting “Positano della Costiera Amalfitana.” And yes, the water really is that stunningly blue. I aimed to do it justice : )
Positano lies between limestone cliffs of the Lattari mountains and the vivid blue Tyrrhenian Sea. If you are looking for perfection, this is it. Positano is perfectly situated between the mountains and the sea. The impressive cliffs, known as the Monti Lattari, stretch along the Sorrentine peninsula. They are made of pale gold limestone, indeed the same that forms Capri.
For nature enthusiasts, there's a hiking trail along the peaks that takes about 2 hours. Named Il Sentiero degli Dei or Path of the Gods, it offers stunning panoramas of the Amalfi Coast.
In my painting, the Lattari Mountains meet the sea while the colorful buildings of Positano are tucked among the cliffs, cascading to the shore in a vibrant flow. A multitude of boats navigate through the vivid blue sea just off shore. The popular beach, lined with umbrellas, takes center stage as the prime spot for aquatic adventures or simply enjoying a day under the sun.
