Hi everyone! I’m Kimberly and I’m an artist.
I would like to take you on a tour of my painting "Market Day, San Gimignano".
San Gimignano is in the Tuscany region of Italy. Its lush green hills are carpeted with vineyards and topped with hill towns built in the Middle Ages.
They are a vision of rural beauty, but they were originally built for protection. They were surrounded by thick stone walls, the remains of which you can see today.
San Gimignano is one of these towns. Inside the impressive walls, is a town built of golden stone. It is known for the majestic towers that stand like sentinels looking over the countryside.
I chose to paint this town on market day, which it has twice a week. I’ve always loved open air markets for the chance to meet the artisans and farmers selling their wares. It’s fascinating speaking with the person who crafted each item with care.
The stalls are mobile and they move from town to town. Some are even run directly out of vehicles with attachable awnings to create an instant shop. Each place has their market on a different day.
I like to follow up trips to these markets by stopping in a nearby trattoria or osteria. That way I can enjoy the view and have a local treat. Gelato is also a good idea and San Gimignano has some great ones!
Thank you for joining me on this tour today!
